The Ford Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Edition will make 0-60 in 3.5 seconds and offer over 230 miles of range.

The Best is Yet to Come

The first question auto enthusiasts had when they first saw Ford’s new electric crossover, the Mustang Mach-E, was: They’re calling it a Mustang?! The second, and perhaps more salient, question was: how fast is it going to be? Between the electric powertrain (and its inevitably high torque number) and the Mustang name, it had to be fast, right? We found out last summer the non-GT Mustang Mach-Es would be decently, but not blisteringly, fast, with zero to sixty times between 5.2 and 5.8 seconds. We also knew back then that there would be faster versions to come.

GT and GT Performance

Indeed, the Mustang Mach-E GT and GT Performance Edition are slated for release sometime this summer, and the numbers are appropriately eye-popping.

First the GT, which ups the Mach-E’s output from a maximum of 346 horsepower and 428lb.-ft. of torque in the Premium trim to 480 horsepower and a whopping 600lb.-ft. in the GT. The Performance Edition will sport the same horsepower as the regular GT but adds to the torque, upping it to 634lb.-ft. Both versions will feature eAWD (electric all-wheel drive) as the only drivetrain.

The GT and GT Performance Edition will run on the larger 88kWh battery pack. This makes them both considered “extended range” by Ford’s standard. The GT is estimated to get 250 miles of range on a single charge. The GT Performance Edition sacrifices 15 miles to 235 miles of maximum range.

In exchange for the diminished range, the GT Performance Edition does deliver a quicker pace off the line. The GT already eclipses the Mach-E Premium’s 0-60 time of 4.8 seconds by a full second to 3.8 to cruising speed. The GT Performance Edition shaves off two-tenths to a very zippy 3.5 seconds. For comparison sake, the “real” Mustang GT500’s 0-60 time is 3.3 seconds.

Sick Wheels, Brah

Extra torque is not the only thing that the Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Edition will add. It will also get a magna-ride suspension, red Brembo calipers, and adaptive dampers. Ford Performance seats with “Performance Grey ActiveX” material (which at least sounds cool), accent stitching, and suede inserts.

Both versions will get 20-inch wheels, but the Performance Edition’s black-painted version are among the most stylish wheels out there and feel perfectly appropriate for the halo version of Ford’s halo EV. Those wheels will come clad in Pirelli 245/45R70 summer tires.

Colors for the GT and GT Performance include Dark Matter Grey and Cyber Orange Metallic. Suffice to say, between the big wheels and killer paint options, the Mach-E GTs will be turning heads.

The One We’re Waiting For

The current Mach-E is already a great car, but the Mustang Mach-E GT and GT Performance look to be the fulfillment of the promise of electrified performance by providing some serious speed to go along with the added efficiency. As impressive as Tesla’s cars are, Elon Musk’s greatest contribution to the automotive industry is forcing the rest of the industry to catch up by producing fashionable, efficient, and most importantly fast electric vehicles. Judging by the Mach-E GT, Ford has gotten the memo.

The Ford Mustang Mach-E GT will start at $60,500 before federal and state tax incentives are calculated in. Ford hasn’t yet released the GT Performance sticker price yet.
