Electric vehicles are the current automotive trend as of late and General Motors has been making waves with their new entries as of late. The Chevrolet Bolt EV and larger EUV have already been out on public roads, the GMC Hummer EV is starting to show up, and the Chevrolet Silverado EV can be reserved before its 2023 release. But there’s another GM brand that’s taking orders for their new EV starting today. Cadillac has long been the luxury brand for the automotive giant and now they plan to bring that same luxurious experience in an electrified SUV. Here are the latest details on the all-new 2023 Cadillac LYRIQ electric SUV.

The 2023 Cadillac LYRIQ

Cadillac isn’t moving on from their long history of luxury design, it’s actually being furthered on the electrified with the 2023 Cadillac LYRIQ. This Cadillac EV has just as bold of styling as the rest of their lineup and furthers that with eye catching exterior features that are unique to the LYRIQ. Up front is the most obvious change, the grille is now a black panel filled with lines of light and a glowing badge that works in unison with the headlights and indicators to create what Cadillac calls “choreographed exterior lighting”. This is essentially a miniature light show that moves from the illuminated badge outwards to the other lights when the vehicle is started.

That isn’t the only unique exterior feature here though. The LYRIQ’s roof is made with a single pane of glass that seamlessly follows along the roofline and really opens up passengers to the sky above. Customers will also notice the unique LYRIQ wheel options that feature either specialized aero inserts for the 20-inch ones or a machined finish to create the same aerodynamic design on the 22-inch wheels. This all makes for a good-looking Cadillac, but there’s so much more underneath the skin and inside that makes the LYRIQ what it is.

Cadillac LYRIQ Power and Performance

Let’s talk about what is powering this electrified Cadillac. The 2023 Cadillac LYRIQ utilizes GM’s Ultium Platform, the same platform found across all of GM’s EV products. This battery platform not only holds the power for the LYRIQ, it also acts as a structural piece of the chassis and provides the SUV with near perfect weight distribution. The 12-module, 100 kWh battery pack inside the LYRIQ is estimated to produce 340 horsepower and 325 lb-ft of torque through a single electric motor on the rear-wheel drive (RWD) model. Jumping for the all-wheel drive (AWD) LYRIQ adds a second electric motor that bumps estimated outputs to 500 horsepower and 524 lb-ft of torque. AWD also allows the SUV to trailer up to 3,500 pounds.

As for charging and range, the LYRIQ RWD is estimated to have a range of 312 miles on a fully charged battery while estimates have yet to be released for the AWD model. The Ultium Platform the LYRIQ rides on helps achieve this range thanks to its energy recovery system that captures and redistributes waste energy from the battery. Cadillac states that the same recovery system in the LYRIQ increases charging speed, reduces the energy needed for heating, and can add to the LYRIQ’s driving dynamics.

Cadillac’s electric SUV offers Level 2 (AC) charging through a home installed charger at a rate of 19.2 kW on the RWD (about 52 miles of range per hour) or 11.5 kW on the AWD (about 37 miles of range per hour). An included dual-level charge cord is also available that works at a rate of 7.7 kW, enough to charge the RWD at 21 miles of range per hour and the AWD at 19 miles of range per hour. The 2023 Cadillac LYRIQ can also make use of public DC fast charging at a rate of 190 kw, which calculates out to an estimated 76 miles of range after charging for about 10 minutes for either version.

When the LYRIQ takes to the road, customers can experience the available Super Cruise Hands-Free Driver-Assistance Technology. This extensive hands-free technology will make road trips a breeze as it follows directions on seven million miles (and counting) of compatible roads. Super Cruise allows the LYRIQ to automatically change lanes, maintain a safe distance at speed to the rest of traffic, and uses a host of technologies all together to keep the vehicle on the road and in safe proximity to other drivers.

Cadillac LYRIQ Interior & Entertainment

The LYRIQ has a good mixture of luxury, technology, and Cadillac design elements throughout its interior. The first thing passengers will notice when sitting down isn’t just the comfortable seating, it’ll be the ample amount of space to stretch out. Not having to include room for the engine, transmission, or any of the other bulky components found in a standard combustion power vehicle means more room for the passengers. This added room also means added storage areas. The LYRIQ offers large cargo bins around the cabin, a sliding drawer, and even a lined compartment that they call a “jewelry box”.

Being an electric vehicle, this thing has been packed with all sorts of tech. The most glaring example of which is the 33-inch curved LED infotainment display that stretches from where the driver’s gauge cluster would typically reside to the center of the dash. Information and entertainment apps will be displayed in an eye-catching and crisp manner. The LYRIQ’s system also benefits from planned over-the-air software updates that will help it evolve over the course of ownership. Better Super Cruise, more functionality built in, added driving performance tunes, and plenty more.

That large display helps control some of the other unique tech features found around the vehicle. Control ambient lighting found throughout the interior with one of the 26 different color settings to help set the mood. These settings can be split between the upper and lower segments of the vehicle and open up all sorts of fun color ways not many other competitors can offer.

Passengers can also use that 33-inch display to control the music that’s played through the Cadillac-exclusive AKG Studio 19-speaker system. This sound system is placed strategically around the cabin to create an immersive listening experience through its advanced sound technologies. AKG Studio employs tech like Adaptive Volume and Surround Technology to make the LYRIQ one of the most unique sound experiences on the road, especially for front passengers. The front head rests in the LYRIQ have speakers built in to them to really make the surround sound personal.

When passengers want to kill the music and just enjoy the ride, they’ll notice how quiet it is inside. Not only is the lack of engine noise helping, but Cadillac’s active noise cancellation measures road vibration and then utilizes the AKG Studio system to actively cancel the exterior noise generated from driving. This system works in tandem with the sleek design built from wind-tunnel testing and acoustic laminated glass to make the inside a tranquil experience.

Being a Cadillac, the LYRIQ makes sure to add luxurious details wherever it can. There are quality materials throughout the cabin, polished metal adornments, modern design choices, and even what Cadillac calls “interior jewelry”. The jewelry they speak of is the extensive details they imbued into the interior down to small items like the beautifully crafted control knob featuring the logo on the center console. It’s this careful attention to detail that makes this along with all other Cadillacs a nice luxury vehicle choice.
