Chevrolet has been continually making electrified additions to their lineup that started with the Bolt EV, slightly larger Bolt EUV, and then the recently introduced Chevrolet Silverado EV pickup truck. They’re not done yet though as they’ve just unveiled the all-electric Blazer EV. Not only is this historic SUV nameplate from Chevy joining the electrified game, but it’s also coming with the first Super Sport trim on an EV too. Is this electric SUV worth the wait? And is this SS trim a glimpse of the Camaro or Corvette’s electrified future? Let’s dig into all of the details we know about Chevy Blazer EV!

First-Ever All-Electric Chevrolet Blazer EV

The exterior design of the Blazer EV has already been out for a bit now, and while it clearly holds some resemblance to the gas-powered model, this EV version has some visible changes. First, there are a lot fewer sharp edges to the Blazer EV than its normal Blazer counterpart. While it shares the same name, the Blazer EV aims to reduce as much drag as possible with its revised design. Chevrolet updated the roofline so that the windshield is more sheer and joins with a curved roof that slopes to the rear. Even the lower skirts of the vehicle continue the alternate design aspects with a flatter style and higher trim models gain air splitting fins. All these sleek and aerodynamic changes aid in the Blazer EV’s electric range.

Continuing to look over the SUV, Chevy also reimagined the front end with newly designed LED daytime running light design with top trims featuring a full-length design with a glowing “bowtie” logo in the middle. There’s also no need for a true grille anymore, so in its place is some stylized plastic with little venting. Following along the front quarter panels, you’ll notice an interesting divot in the Blazer EV’s side. It’s essentially just a design choice, but it is also where the hidden charging port resides. At the rear, the roof still juts off into a small spoiler and features updated taillights to better adhere to the dynamic design that Chevrolet is going for.

2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV Range & Performance

Like all of Chevrolet’s EV options, the Blazer EV rides on GM’s Ultium Platform. Chevrolet states that the Ultium battery setup in the Blazer EV is capable of charging at a rate of 11.5kW through at-home AC charging or up to 190kW charging through a high-speed DC fast-charger, which equates to about 78 miles recharged every 10 minutes. The Blazer EV adds to its available range by utilizing Regen Braking, a feature that converts kinetic energy from the vehicle’s momentum into the battery. This electric platform’s design and battery placement also provides the SUV with a lower and wider stance along with a lower center of gravity to help keep the car planted in turns.

The Ultium Platform isn’t just about charging and handling though, it has the flexibility to allow Chevy to provide customers with a number of different configurations of their electric mid-size SUV. The Blazer EV is said to come in four trims – 1LT, 2LT, RS, and the first-ever electric SS performance model. Each has its own benefits, ranges, and other options including three different available drivetrains.

The base trim 1LT starts at $44,995 and features a 247-mile estimated range on a full charge, 19-inch wheels, and only comes in front-wheel drive (FWD). 2LT models start at $47,595 and bump the range up to 293 miles, include 19-inch wheels, and opens up AWD in addition to FWD. RS trimmed Blazer EVs reach the maximum available range of 320 miles, introduce a set of 21-inch wheels, adds a number of technological features, adds heated surfaces, and not only provides FWD and AWD as options but allows for RWD as well. The RS trim starts at $51,995. Then there’s the $65,995 SS model with a 290-mile range, 22-inch wheels, and is strictly AWD. Full performance specs have yet to be announced, except for the SS trimmed model that we’ll get into more in a bit.

2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV Interior

Chevrolet has refined the interior cabin of the Blazer EV to provide a highly technological space with modern design aesthetics. There’s plenty of sports car influence throughout from the Camaro and Corvette. The circular vent styling, angular finishes, and upper trim two-tone styling all make for what looks to be an exciting cabin. Thanks to the Ultium Platform’s flat floor, Interior space looks to be adequate in both the front and rear rows, plus there’s plenty of storage space throughout. Springing for the RS or SS trims opens up the heated and ventilated seats along with a heated steering wheel to make passengers feel extra comfortable.

What will really catch your eye inside the Blazer EV is the massive 17.7-inch-diagonal touchscreen infotainment system that handles all the entertainment, navigation, climate controls, and more within it. Net to that massive screen is the driver’s 11-inch-diagonal Driver Information Center that acts as an advanced gauge cluster for speed, range, and a number of other helpful notifications. The technology continues with wireless phone charging, wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, the available hands-free Super Cruise driver assistance tech, and built in Ultifi software that will both help the Blazer EV stay up to date and add upgrades to its system over time.

Safety rounds out this technology area with the standard Chevy Safety Assist suite featuring automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian braking, lane keep assist with lane departure warning, forward collision alert, following distance indicator, and IntelliBeam auto high beams. Additional available safety tech includes the enhanced automatic parking assist that has the Blazer EV park itself into a parallel or perpendicular parking space with little to no user input.

The Chevrolet Blazer EV SS

Now, for what maybe a glimpse at the Chevrolet performance of the future, the Chevrolet Blazer EV SS. Chevrolet’s vice president, Scott Bell, stated that “The Blazer EV SS has the soul of a true sports car. And while it represents the pinnacle of performance for Chevy’s EV lineup, all models offer stirring capabilities that will surprise and delight true performance devotees.” The performance he spoke of is an AWD configuration that can put down up to 557 horsepower and up to 648 lb-ft of torque. The SS trim also includes the new Wide Open Watts (WOW) mode that enables the mid-size SUV to sprint to 60 mph in less than 4 seconds.

Keeping this performance model in check is a set of front Brembo brakes and a specific to the SS, sport-tuned chassis. The Blazer EV SS not only provides unique performance, the top trim level also makes sure you know what it is when its speeds past you. The SS trim adds a unique front grille design with full-length LED lighting, unique 22-inch wheels, blacked out roof, unique front and rear skid plates, and SS badging. The SS trim also adds a bit to the interior experience like a standard Head-Up Display, full-display camera mirror, unique SS interior trim and color options, and sueded microfiber seating.

The Chevrolet Blazer EV PPV

Similar to the classic California Highway Patrol Camaros of yore, Chevrolet introduced a police version of their new EV speedster. The Police Pursuit Vehicle (PPV) is a specially developed Blazer EV for law enforcement use. It’s based off of the Blazer EV SS model with the same performance metrics, but features the largest battery found in the whole lineup and comes available as RWD or AWD. The Blazer EV PPV also features a unique interior experience specifically crafted for police use by providing officers with plenty of useable room for all of their unique equipment and gear.

Chevrolet Isn’t Done Yet

Chevrolet is dedicated to electrifying their lineup and the Chevrolet Blazer EV is just the next step in their plan. The introduction of the SS model opens up the potential for Chevrolet’s sports cars, the Camaro and Corvette, to join the electrified lineup in a matter of years. While die-hard fans will scoff at the idea, sub 4 second 0-60 times sound pretty fun. Also, the PPV may be a design directed squarely at one job, but Chevrolet’s vice president of GM Fleet, Ed Peper, stated that “The possibilities for the Blazer EV’s commercial and law enforcement applications are almost endless. Along with zero-tailpipe-emissions performance, it reduces the number and frequency of certain maintenance requirements typically associated with fleet vehicles.” All I can think after that statement is that the Chevrolet Express may be up next for electrification to compete with Ford’s E-Transit.

We should know more details about the Blazer EV in the coming months. In the meantime, what do you think of the 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV? Are you planning on getting one? Are you ready for the next electric vehicle from Chevrolet? Let us know in the comments below!
