The 2023 New York International Auto Show is showcasing concepts, new cars, and more! Take a look at what is impressing us so far!
It started back in 1950 with the Aston Martin DB2. Since then, the New York International Auto Show has featured a wide variety of cars including the Lamborghini Miura, GMC Syclone concept, Mazda MX-3, Ford Taurus, and Porsche 911 GT3. More than 700 vehicles are set to be on display over the course of the 2023 New York International Auto Show. There is 1 million sq-ft of exhibit space!
Hyundai, Kia, Genesis, Ram, Subaru, Volkswagen, and Jeep all have introductions this year. Hyundai is not only showing off the 2024 Kona N Line and Electric, but it also brought the Ioniq 5 Disney100 Platinum Concept. Meanwhile, Chevrolet, Dodge, Fiat, Koenisgsegg, Nissan, and Lexus all have some impressive models of their own. From debuts to concepts, here is some of what we’ve seen so far.
Speaking of debuts, the Kia EV9 was seen for the first time. There’s still no official release date for the midsize all-electric SUV, but Kia is aiming for a date somewhere near the end of 2023. Brand executives introduced the 2024 Kia EV9 by talking about the targeted 300-mile driving range on a single charge. EV9 models that come with a larger battery pack are expected to have an extended total driving range, too.
Inside are updates that include haptic switches that only light up when the EV9 is turned on and power-adjustable leg rests. Swivel seats that turn towards the passenger doors won’t be an EV9 feature available in North America, though.
Just like the release date, there’s no known manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP), but rumors are that it will start around $56,000. The SUV may or may not be eligible for a tax credit of up to $7,500. The EV9, which seats up to seven people, will be assembled in Georgia. We’ll see how customers take to the futuristic vibe, the sleek cabin, and the overall performance once it’s available.
Here’s another electric vehicle that has some people excited. The 1500 REV utilizes traditional Ram styling. The cabin has a massive center display that is a mixture of touchscreen elements and hard knob buttons. In front of the truck is a large amount of front trunk space. The 1500 REV certainly looks good. It just needs to perform as well as it looks.
So, how will it perform? We don’t know for sure, but, based on internal simulation data from Ram, it has a targeted total driving range of up to 500 miles. If that ends up being the case, the 2025 Ram 1500 REV would have a best-in-class range. It also packs a wallop with 654 horsepower, too. A combination of style and impressive estimated numbers positions the Ram 1500 REV in a nice position to take on the Ford F-150 Lightning.
The 2024 Hyundai Kona, Kona Electric, and Kona N Line were all revealed at the 2023 New York International Auto Show, too. The latest generation of the Hyundai Kona kicks off with electric and gas-powered engines. Many specs were offered on these models for the first time. We also know that gasoline-powered Kona models will arrive sometime this summer while the electric models should be available this fall.
The Electric model is the bright, neon yellow that is impossible to miss. It’s got an electric range of 260 miles based on preliminary internal Hyundai estimates. The smaller battery pack has a 48.6-kWh capacity and 133-hp electric motor with a range of 197 miles. The more powerful battery upgrades to 64.8 kWh with a 201-hp electric motor and 260 miles of range. Cargo space in the rear of the 2024 Kona Electric, with seats in an upright position, increases from 19 cu-ft to 26 cu-ft.
The base 2024 Kona or sportier N Line offer internal combustion powertrains with an aspirated 2.0-liter engine that makes 147 horsepower and a continuously variable automatic transmission. Also available is a turbocharged 1.6-liter engine that works with a conventional eight-speed automatic transmission to make 190 horsepower. The second-generation with a gasoline engine offers all-wheel drive as an option. Official Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) ratings, exact pricing, and trim-level details will be revealed later.
Are you ready for a crossover coupe? Genesis hopes so. The concept of the Genesis GV Coupe is a stylish, elegant, sporty crossover coupe, based on the regular GV80. The rear end has been trimmed down, a black grille is part of the redesigned front fascia, and a spoiler on the hatch makes this coupe a head-turner. Orange accents, including orange-backed seats, make it even sharper! What will come of this concept? It’s hard to say, but Genesis seems to hint that more performance-oriented models could be part of a future lineup.
This isn’t an Avengers-level crossover, but Hyundai did team up with Disney to create the Ioniq 5 Disney100 Platinum Concept to celebrate Disney’s 100th anniversary. It has the same sharp, geometric styling on the side of the car as a normal Ioniq 5 would have, but this particular Ioniq also features Disney-inspired light animations in the LED areas on the front and rear of the car. It’s a Disney atmosphere inside, too. Star-themed graphics illuminate the sunroof. Disney 100 badges can be found throughout the cabin and across the exterior as well.
Jeep is using the New York Auto Show to show off a few mid-cycle updates on the 2024 Wrangler. It still offers the same powertrain options, but it has an increased towing capacity of 5,000 lbs. The front fascia was also freshened up. It has a rounder look than before. The grille still has Jeep’s trademark seven vertical slots, but the mesh behind that is more open.
Some of the more noticeable improvements are inside the Jeep Wrangler, though. It now includes several soft-touch materials (along with some knobs), a new dashboard, and a 12.3-inch infotainment system will be standard at every trim level. Not only is the Wrangler dashboard set up differently, but it also has a couple of functional upgrades. The Trails Offroad app features dozens of interactive trail guides. 62 of them are specifically labeled “Jeep Badge of Honor” trails. More than 3,000 other guides are available through a subscription. If you want to see the complete evolution of this iconic vehicle, be sure to click on our Jeep Wrangler Through the Years piece.
Another updated model on display this week is the 2024 Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness. Starting at $31,995, the Wilderness is priced just above the Limited trim. The Wilderness, as you’d expect, brings a lot more ruggedness to the 2024 Subaru Crosstrek. First appearing on the Subaru Outback a few years ago, the Wilderness is equipped with standard Subaru all-wheel drive, has 9.3 inches of ground clearance, and has a powertrain that’ll get drivers through rougher terrain than usual.
The 2024 Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness is powered by a 2.5-liter direct-injection Subaru boxer engine and a continuously variable transmission (CVT) to make 182 horsepower and 176 lb-ft of torque. Additional equipment upgrades include longer coil springs, improved shock absorbers, and better dampening compression.
Outside, the Crosstrek Wilderness utilizes some of the same design elements and coloring as other Wilderness models. The hex-designed LED fog lights are there. So is the Geyser Blue body paint. Inside is an 11.6 touchscreen and the standard Subaru infotainment, including wireless device charging and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration.
Of course, these are just a few of the vehicles at the 2023 New York Auto Show. There are too many vehicles on display to make mention of, but some vehicles are just too cool not to mention, like the Koenigsegg Regera, just one of 80 models ever made. The DeLorean is always fun to see. This one was situated in front of a Back to the Future display.
The first-ever 2024 Grand Highlander, a stretched version of the Toyota Highlander, was already introduced at the Chicago Auto Show, but it also made its way to New York. Nissan brought the Ariya a bit of fake snow flurries to go along with their tagline, “Smooth Driving in Any Season.”
Chevrolet showed off the 2024 Chevrolet Trax and a 2024 Chevrolet Trailblazer, facelift and all. The 2023 Chevy Camaro, the last of the current generation, was also there. It may have been tucked away in the corner of the Chevrolet-branded vehicles, but people still stopped by to snap a photo or two. It may be the last of the Camaro as we currently know it, but you can always relive previous Camaro generations by clicking on our Chevrolet Camaro Through the Years article.
This collection is huge.
