When Do 2022 Cars Come Out? Soon!

To answer “When do 2022 cars come out?” we put together this list highlighting some of the most exciting vehicles set to arrive in 2022.

The Cars We’re Looking Forward to in 2022

As 2021 winds down, the question of “When do 2022 cars come out?” becomes ever more pressing. Especially in the current climate of supply chain disruptions and inflated pricing. On top of that, most automakers are showing a full embrace of an all-electric future as seen with the Rivian R1T and Kia EV6, putting the vehicle landscape into a state of transition. That makes this a good time to look at what’s coming down the pike for 2022.

Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing

For the final act of their fire-breathing V8-powered sedans, Cadillac presents the CT5-V Blackwing and it’s a screamer. 668 horsepower from the supercharged 6.2L V8 is good for a 3.4 second run to 60 and a top speed north of 200 mph. Magnetorheological dampers and a 6-speed manual will greet buyers of the roughly $85,000 brute. It is unlikely we will ever see powertrains like this again, so get one if you can.

Mazda MX-30

A polar opposite to the Blackwing is Mazda’s 2022 MX-30. The company’s first foray into a full electric is something of a toe in the water. Initially only available in California, this little crossover is designed for urban owners with its 100 mile range. Expected to start around $35,000 with a 143-horse motor driving the front wheels, there will eventually be a plug-in hybrid version and distribution to other states. Check out our deeper dive on the first electric Mazda here.

Toyota Tundra

Long overdue for a redesign, the 2022 Toyota Tundra looks brawnier than ever and will eschew a leaf-sprung rear end in favor of coils with the option for air bladders. There will not be a V8 option. However, the twin-turbo V6 will make a healthy 389 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque with a hybrid variant cranking those figures up 437 and 583, respectively. Highlights like a 12,000-pound towing capacity and 14” infotainment display are sure to make the third-gen Tundra a compelling pickup.

Volvo V60 Recharge

Volvo, home of the understated Swedish long roof, has unfortunately axed the base models of their elegant V60 and V90 station wagons for the coming year. This segment has not been cool for decades, but if you harbor a fondness for such vehicles, the 2022 V60 Recharge features “Polestar Engineering”. That translates to 415 horsepower, nearly 500 lb-ft of torque, manually adjustable Öhlins dampers, and Brembo brakes. Sign me up.

Lexus NX

All new, the next Lexus NX steps up its luxury compact SUV game with four different powertrains and sharp new looks. Your choice of two gas motors or two hybrid setups includes a 275 hp F Sport with 20” wheels and adaptive suspension or plug-in hybrid making 302 horsepower with AWD. Not cheap at about $40,000 to start, the NX makes the most of its Lexus brand cachet to address that cost with features like a 14” infotainment touchscreen, panoramic sunroof, and open-pore wood trim.

Nissan Z

Nissan’s storied Z car returns in 2022 with the simple name “Z”, versus historical alphanumeric designations like 240Z or 370Z. Styling that blends all the best aspects of past Z’s – just check out those taillights – instantly calls to mind this classic rear wheel drive sports car. A 6-speed manual will be standard and is mated to a twin-turbo V6 cranking out 400 horsepower. Performance options like a limited-slip differential, 19” summer tires, and oversized brakes sound like just the thing to ensure the next Z is a hit.

Jeep Grand Wagoneer

Another name from the past is resurrected as the massive 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer three-row SUV. A golden halo to Jeep’s also-new Wagoneer, the luxury land yacht will be powered by a big ol’ 6.4L V8. Aiming at the Escalade demographic, expect a $90,000 sticker affixed to this most expensive of Jeeps. However, that will be justified with features like a front-passenger infotainment screen, genuine wood trim, adaptive air ride suspension, 23-speaker McIntosh stereo, and more.

Genesis G90

Big fancy sedans have been abandoned by American automakers and generally dominated by the Germans. That being said, Hyundai’s high-end brand Genesis is not backing down, as evidenced by their fully redesigned G90. With striking looks, this big cruiser will feature a twin-turbo V6 making around 375 horsepower run to the rear wheels. Notable features include air suspension, massaging seats, rear wheel steering, and fingerprint scanner access. Expected to start north of $75,000 and arriving in 2022, the next G90 is sure to raise some eyebrows over in Germany.

We’ve Got Plenty of Vehicles to Look Forward to

As the automotive world continues its electronic evolution, there is no shortage of exciting vehicles on the horizon. The Bronco updates and Cayman GT4 RS come to mind as just a couple examples of what you can expect when 2022 cars come out.

Niel Stender grew up doing replacement work on his 1990 Cherokee and 1989 Starion, so it’s not surprising that he would put his mechanical engineering degree from the University of New Hampshire to use in the car world as a vehicle dynamics engineer. Now engineering sentence structures, his writing infuses his auto experience with his time in marketing and his sales experience. Writing about cars for close to a decade now, he focuses on some of the more technical mechanical systems that are found under the hood and throughout a vehicle.
