2025 marks 30 years of continuous Chevy Tahoe production and it’s more impressive than ever. After the fifth-generation model arrived in 2021, Chevy has implemented a mid-cycle refresh this year that ushers in a host of updates over the 2024 Tahoe.
Outside, a new front fascia is complemented by new lighting designs and optional 24” rims. The cabin features a revised front row look, real wood trim on High Country models, and a now-standard 17.7” central touchscreen. There’s also new trailering tech, a more powerful Duramax engine, and upgrades in the ride and handling department.
Stacked with standard advanced safety systems
Diesel powertrain efficiency
Huge infotainment interface
$61,000 entry price
Gas guzzling 6.2L V8
So-so safety ratings
A nice way to move lots of people and stuff
The standard 2025 Tahoe engine is a 5.3L V8 making 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque. An optional 6.2L V8 turns the juice up to 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. Or you can select the 3.0L turbodiesel straight-6 with its 305 horses and 495 torques. No matter the mill, a 10-speed automatic sends power to the rear wheels. Four-wheel drive is available, as are air suspension and magnetorheological dampers.
Fuel efficiency is, well, not great for the V8 twins at 17 mpg combined for a RWD Tahoe with either V8, or 16-17 mpg combined with 4WD and the 6.2L unit. Fortunately, the diesel powertrain offers up to 24 mpg combined. As for towing, it’s respectable at 8,400 pounds when properly equipped, but know that the Ford Expedition bests its Detroit rival with a 9,300-pound rating.
As one of the few SUVs that can seat up to 9, in LS trim only, the 2025 Tahoe is a paragon of people moving. Most models come with room for 8, though the available second-row captain’s thrones trim that to 7. Befitting its land yacht footprint, the Tahoe impresses with 42” of second-row legroom, 35” in the third row, a maximum cargo capacity of 123 cubic feet, and 25 cubes behind the wayback. When you demand the most massive four-wheeled transportation device, few are more so than this bloated brute.
With that bloat comes a rather nice space for occupants. Base models make do with cloth upholstery, albeit nice white-accented cloth, while higher-level Tahoes feature leather and climate-controlled seat cushions. Acoustic laminated glass comes standard and power-folding back seats can be selected for when doing it the old-fashioned way is just too exhausting.
New this year, the Chevy Tahoe comes standard with an enormous 17.7” central touchscreen that abuts a fully digital gauge cluster. Wireless smartphone mirroring, Google built-in, and a 5G Wi-Fi hotspot are also on hand, but the 10-speaker audio system from Bose and 15.3” head-up display are standard only on the near $80,000 High Country range topper.
Safety features are even more robust as every 2025 Tahoe features forward collision mitigation, blind-spot accident mitigation, a lane-keeping system, automatic high beams, adaptive cruise control, and a self-parking system. As for crash-test ratings, it’s less rosy with the NHTSA awarding the new Tahoe 4 stars overall and just 3 in the rollover protocol, while the IIHS says the big Chevy is merely Acceptable in small overlap front crashes and Poor in the moderate test.
Base LS content includes 18” wheels, all LED exterior lighting, rain-sensing wipers, and power-adjustable front seats. There is also triple-zone automatic climate control, a navigation system, and a surround-view monitor on hand.
LT models tack on convenience and comfort with a power-operated liftgate, heated front seats, leather upholstery, and a wireless phone charging pad. These Tahoes also unlock access to options like Super Cruise and a panoramic moonroof.
The Tahoe RST looks sporty with 22” rims, LED fog lamps, black badging, and a dual exhaust system. Inside, the street truck theme continues courtesy of black leather with red accents.
Off-road-friendly Z71 Tahoes come with a unique front fascia, a bevy of skid plates, red tow hooks, and 20” wheels shod in all-terrain rubber. This is also the only 2025 Tahoe that comes standard with 4WD.
For around 75 large, Premier trim lines boast the Magnetic Ride Control system, lighting animations, climatized front seats, heat for the steering wheel and second-row seats, a Bose audio system, and power-folding back seats.
High Country models bring the ritz with 22” wheels, the 6.2L V8, two-tone leather, and a head-up display. Tick all the options, like the Deluxe package with its air suspension and power side steps, for a breathtaking sticker price of more than $100,000.
Though the $61,000 starting price for a 2025 Chevy Tahoe may sound crazy, it’s not, at least relative to the 2025 Ford Expedition that has an almost identical entry point. The Ford comes with a more powerful standard engine, but the Chevy bests it in the overall cargo capacity metric.
Considering how well equipped the 2025 Tahoe is in base LS guise, that’s where we’d put our money. Like Ford, Chevy’s warranty is the typical 3 years of basic coverage and 5 years on the powertrain warranty, with an initial service visit thrown in for free.

The 2025 Chevy Tahoe challenges the notion that fuel-efficient vehicles are the way of the future. If you subscribe to that concept, look elsewhere. However, for those who enjoy the commanding sensation of sitting high above all others on the road in an SUV that can hold everything, tow many things, pamper its occupants in the lap of luxury, and funnel 87 octane like a senior-year frat boy, the Tahoe awaits.
In fairness, it’s hard to resist the pull of a Chevy V8, particularly the honking 6.2. But holy moly this thing is overkill, which is just what the Bowtie brand no doubt intended.
The 2025 Chevy Tahoe is 211 inches long, or about 17 ½ feet.
The Tahoe can tow up to 8,400 pounds.
Depending on configuration, the 2025 Tahoe can seat 7, 8, or 9 occupants.
