What is New for the 2025 GMC Canyon

After the third-generation GMC Canyon debuted in 2023, changes this year versus the 2024 Canyon (which we review here) are limited to new colors, including Glacier Metallic and Desert Sun, and a new AT4 Nightfall Edition package that adds the blackout treatment to AT4 models. Competing in the mid-size pickup truck arena, the GMC Canyon’s rivals include the Ford Ranger, Toyota Tacoma, and in-house stablemate Chevy Colorado. Positioned as the fancier twin within GM’s pickup truck hierarchy, the Canyon works hard to justify its premium price with a higher dose of high-end features.

2025 GMC Canyon Powertrain 8.5/10

2025 GMC Canyon - gmc.com

Only one powertrain is offered on the 2025 GMC Canyon, but it’s a beefcake. The turbocharged 2.7L four-cylinder produces 310 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque. Lashed to an 8-speed automatic, the Canyon is a typical RWD pickup on base Elevation models, while four-wheel drive is standard on AT4 and Denali trim lines.

Fuel economy is on par with the segment at 17 mpg city, 23 mpg highway, and 20 mpg combined for RWD trucks, figures that drop to 17, 21, and 19 mpg, respectively, when 4WD is fitted. Towing capacity is high at 7,700 pounds for all 2025 Canyons except when the AT4X package is specified. Adding serious off-road capability, these variants are rated for 6,000 pounds of towing and see a combined fuel economy rating of 17 mpg.

2025 GMC Canyon Interior 8.75/10

Only sold as a crew cab with a 5.5-foot bed, the 2025 Canyon seats 5 with 35” of backseat legroom. Cabin materials range from cloth and soft-touch surfaces on the entry-level Elevation to handsome two-tone leather in black and teak on the range-topping Denali.

Those trucks also boast climate-controlled front seats and an acoustic laminated windshield, but every new Canyon comes with automatic climate control, a rear seat that flips up in a 60/40 configuration, and a sliding rear window.

2025 GMC Canyon Technology Features 9/10

2025 GMC Canyon - gmc.com

GMC loads the 2025 Canyon with standard technology like an 11.3” central display, a fully digital gauge cluster, wireless smartphone mirroring, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. A 6-speaker stereo is included, but you can opt for a 7-component system from Bose, and Denali models feature a head-up display.

As for safety, all Canyons come with 6 airbags, forward collision mitigation, a lane-keeping system, automatic high beams, and blind-spot assist with trailer coverage. The IIHS has not yet tested the new Canyon, but the NHTSA gives it a 4-star overall safety rating.

2025 GMC Canyon Trims & Pricing

2025 GMC Canyon Elevation - gmc.com

Elevation – $40,095

In base Elevation guise, the 2025 Canyon comes with 18” wheels mounted in all-terrain tires, LED headlights and taillamps, and heated side mirrors. Interior highlights include cloth seats, carpeted floors, and USB ports for both rows of seating.

2025 GMC Canyon AT4 - gmc.com

AT4 – $47,395

The off-road-oriented AT4 model sports a 2” suspension lift and widened stance, Hill Descent Control, an auto-locking rear differential, and LED fog lights. Inside, you’ll find a cloth and CoreTec design with heated front seats and an auto-dimming rearview mirror.

The AT4X package costs about $7,000 and adds rock rails, a 3” lift, and a Baja drive mode. Or you can spring for the $10,000 AT4X AEV package to enjoy full skid plates, AEV steel bumpers, fender flares, beadlock-capable wheels, and more.

2025 GMC Canyon Denali - gmc.com

Denali – $53,695

Sitting atop the 2025 Canyon is the Denali with 20” wheels, chrome exterior trim, and perforated leather upholstery. These trucks also come with a heated steering wheel, memory settings, wireless phone charging, adaptive cruise control, and a surround-view monitor.

2025 GMC Canyon Overall Value 8/10

Unless you plan to do serious off-roading or insist on a luxury-laden pickup, the 2025 GMC Canyon Elevation is a perfectly fine model to go with. It offers nearly 10” of ground clearance and the same infotainment tech as the rest of the lineup.

However, you can get into a mechanically identical Chevy Colorado for up to $6,500 less in basic WT spec or $2,600 less for the more comparably equipped Colorado LT. Five years of powertrain coverage and the first factory-scheduled maintenance visit are included with GMC’s warranty.

GMC does an admirable job with the latest Canyon of differentiating it from the Chevy Colorado, mainly by no longer offering a worksite-oriented model. It also keeps the goes-over-anything truck myth alive by aiming the entire lineup at competent off-roading with high ground clearances and standard all-terrain tires.

It’d be nice to have the option for different-sized beds and cabs, but given GMC’s premium-oriented positioning, this setup is not surprising. The price points are borderline crazy considering the existence of the Colorado, but if you want more from your pickup than basic amenities, the 2025 GMC Canyon can certainly oblige.
