For 2025, Nissan debuts an all-new third-generation Armada. Changes over the previous model, which we review here, are vast, but perhaps the biggest news is the discontinuation of the long-running V8 powerplant. In its place is a 3.5L twin-turbo V6 that makes 25 more horsepower and 103 more lb-ft of torque than the V8. A 9-speed automatic takes over from the old 7-speed and Nissan’s PRO-4X off-road brand shows up in the Armada lineup for the first time.
Sitting on the same wheelbase as before, the 2025 Armada grows in length by less than one inch but adds a few more cubic feet of cargo space over the outgoing model. Other notable updates include more square-edged styling and ProPILOT Assist 2.1 with hands-free driving capability.
Big, blocky styling

Nissan’s biggest SUV looks better than ever
A 3.5L twin-turbo V6 powers the 2025 Nissan Armada. Making 425 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque, it sends power to the rear wheels with a 9-speed automatic transmission. Four-wheel drive is available for $3,000 extra or is standard with the PRO-4X model. Fuel economy figures come in at 16 mpg city, 20 mpg highway, and 17 mpg combined for RWD Armadas. Adding 4WD drops the highway and combined numbers by 1 mpg each.
All 2025 Armadas are rated for 8,500 pounds of towing, cementing their status as a solid alternative to a minivan. Standard tow equipment includes a 7-pin wiring harness, trailer hitch, trailer sway control, a trailer brake controller, and blind-spot monitoring with trailer coverage. A trailer backup assist system is optional. On PRO-4X and Platinum Reserve Armadas, an adaptive air suspension system offers up to 11.6 inches of ground clearance and promises a smoother ride over rough roads.
In base spec, the 2025 Nissan Armada has room for 8 passengers with a second-row bench, though it can be swapped for captain’s chairs, reducing occupancy to 7. Legroom comes in at 39” for the second row and 33” for the third row, the latter of which can be folded into the floor to open up more storage. Maximum cargo space, with both back rows laid down, measures 97 cubic feet and the space behind the third row is 20 cubic feet, which is 24% more than what a used Armada delivers.
On the amenities front, Nissan loads the new Armada with standard content like an acoustic laminated windshield, triple-zone automatic climate control, and power-adjustable front seats. Moving up the trim ladder, you’ll find a heated steering wheel on the SL, quilted leather upholstery on Platinum models, and massaging front seats with the range-topping Platinum Reserve.
The new Armada comes with a fully digital instrument panel, a central 12.3” touchscreen, wireless smartphone mirroring, and 6 USB ports. A Wi-Fi hotspot shows up on SL trim lines as does a 12-speaker audio system from Klipsch.
As for safety tech, the 2025 Armada features forward collision mitigation, blind-spot collision avoidance assist, a driver attention monitor, a lane-keeping system, and ProPilot Assist as standard equipment. The NHTSA has not yet rated the new Armada, but the IIHS gives it a Top Safety Pick+ award, its highest rating.
These base 2025 Armadas come with 18” wheels, LED headlights and taillamps, passive entry, and rain-sensing wipers. Interior highlights include black leatherette seating, a real leather-wrapped steering wheel, a 6-speaker stereo system, and Siri Eyes Free tech.
SL models add quite a bit more content like 20” rims, a power-adjustable steering column, heated front seats, upgraded TailorFit faux leather with a two-tone option, and Google Assistant. Other notable features include an invisible hood view, a surround-view monitor, the option for a head-up display, ambient lighting, and ProPILOT Assist 2.1.
For nearly $70,000, the Armada Platinum brings heated and power-folding side mirrors, a panoramic moonroof, a hands-free tailgate, and quilted leather upholstery. These ritzy models also sport ventilated front seats, heated rears, biometric cooling, a 14.3” central display, and a digital rearview mirror.
New for 2025, the PRO-4X moniker means a high clearance front bumper, all-terrain tires, special black wheels, a skid plate, Lava Red highlights inside and out, and an adaptive air suspension with standard 4WD. Sharp-looking NISMO bronze wheels add about $1,400.
Considering the $7,000 upcharge over a regular Armada Platinum, the Reserve model is of dubious value as it only adds 22” wheels, exterior puddle lighting, massaging front seats, a couple more USB ports, and an exclusive front center airbag.
Nissan makes it easy to pick the 2025 Armada SL as the best value given how packed it is with desirable features like heated seats, the Klipsch audio system, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. The price point lines it up with a base Chevy Tahoe LS, though that SUV just received a comprehensive refresh that ushered in a huge infotainment screen and similar features to the Armada SL.
Plus, the Tahoe boasts a maximum cargo hold of 123 cubic feet, which is quite a bit larger than the Armada. Both Nissan and Chevy provide a 3-year basic warranty and 5 years of powertrain coverage. Nissan does not include any complimentary maintenance, versus Chevrolet which includes 1 free oil change.

On looks alone, the all-new third-gen 2025 Nissan Armada is a big improvement over the outgoing model thanks to those more chiseled lines. The PRO-4X variant is compelling for those planning to take their nearly $75,000, 6,000-pound SUV off-road. But if you’re in the more likely camp of driving the family to and from life activities and on the occasional road trip with a boat off the back, even the entry-level Armada SL looks like a good value.
Don’t be fooled into thinking the V6 powertrain will save on gas versus the old V8, however, as the gains are marginal at best. But that’s par for the course in the giant-sized SUV segment, so on the whole, the new Armada has a lot to like.
The 2025 Armada can tow up to 8,500 pounds.
The new Armada seats 7 or 8, depending on configuration.
The 2025 Nissan Armada starts at $57,520 and ranges up to $76,990 for the Platinum Reserve model.
