Are you a mega fan of The Office? Do you remember the cars each character drove? Test your fandom as we take a look at the cars from The Office!
For a show that takes place in an office setting, there were actually a lot of cars featured over the nine seasons of The Office. Some cars were almost guest stars of certain episodes, or recurring characters. They were part of the storylines.
Other times, the continuity was a little loose. A character was seen in a brand-new vehicle with no explanation. I guess the assumption was that, just like an average person, they purchased a new car. Either that or the writers weren’t paying close enough attention to the details.
So, what were the best cars on The Office? There’s a list below for that, if you want to really test your knowledge, keep reading until the end. Find out if you remember which cars every character drove!
Michael Scott’s 2004 Chrysler Sebring
We have to start out with Michael Scott! After all, what is The Office without him? For most of the series, Michael was devoted to his silver 2004 Chrysler Sebring convertible. Michael tasked Ryan with cleaning the car in Season 1, Episode 6 as Michael was going to drive Katie home from work. From there, the writers did a good job of making comedy out of anything involving Michael Scott and a car.
Season 4 saw Michael accidentally hit Meredith with that Sebring in the parking lot. In Season 4, Episode 8, Michael drove Jan to her deposition in that Sebring. The top was down, though, so Jan showed up to the deposition with a wild head of wind-blown hair. That car was eventually damaged by Stanley, with a tire iron, after Michael accidentally revealed the affair that Stanley was having. That same season, Michael also, while following GPS instructions, drove a rental car right into a lake! Like I said before, a lot of storylines in The Office take place in the cars or parking lot.
Later in Season 4, Michael sold his Sebring to help buy Jan a Porsche Boxster. Without a car, he then takes the bus to work, until, without explanation, he and Jan start using a red PT Cruiser convertible. It’s assumed they traded the Porsche in for it. There was a fun moment with that PT Cruiser in Season 5’s “Two Weeks,” after Michael quit Dunder Mifflin. In the opening for that episode, he’s seen trying to parallel park his Cruiser into a large space between two cars on the street. He can’t quite manage to do that, though, and ends up hitting one of the cars before driving away. Adding to the Michael Scott-ness of the moment, his song of choice that day was one by Lady Gaga.
Finally, as a condition of returning to work for Dunder Mifflin, Michael required a new Sebring. It was discontinued by that point, but they did end up getting him a Sebring Limited convertible.
Jan’s Volvo S80
We already covered her Porsche Boxster, but before that, she was the owner of a silver Volvo S80. It was featured in the episodes “Performance Review” and “Cocktails.” That was in Season 3. Two seasons later, in “Baby Shower,” Jan leaves in a new beige Toyota Highlander.
Jim and Pam’s 2010 Subaru Outback
The love story of Jim and Pam is one for the TV history books, right? Well, their car ownership history is almost as complicated as their relationship history. First, Jim drove a maroon early 2000 model Toyota Corolla. It’s seen in “The Alliance,” “Hot Girl,” and “The Carpet.” An interesting note about that car is that it actually belonged to Phyllis Smith, the actress who portrayed the character, “Phyllis.”
By the third season, Jim is driving a silver 2005 Saab 9-2x, first seen in “Traveling Salesmen.” Then, in the fifth season episode “Weight Loss,” Jim is driving a grey Saab 9-3.
Meanwhile, Pam didn’t have a car way back in Season 1. By the third season, she’s driving a blue Toyota Yaris, which was seen in “Grief Counseling.” Eventually, from Season 6 onward, Pam and Jim share their 2010 Subaru Outback. It was a good vehicle to drive off into the sunset with.
Phyllis’ 2005 Toyota Corolla
We already know that the actress drove the early 2000s Toyota Corolla in real life. Well, Phyllis (the character) randomly drives Jim’s same maroon Toyota Corolla in “Traveling Salesman,” from Season 3. There’s no explanation as to why she drives that vehicle. Did Jim sell it to her? Do they both happen to own the same car? The producers probably didn’t think anyone would even notice, but The Office has hit cult show status, so every minor detail is noticed.
In “Crime Aid,” an episode from Season 5, Phyllis owns a 2008 Chevrolet Malibu. Whatever happened to the Corolla? That will remain a mystery until E! decides to do a True Hollywood Story on the cars of The Office.
Andy’s 2001 Nissan Xterra SE
Andy’s 2001 Nissan Xterra SE is first seen in Season 3’s “The Merger,” when Andy takes a cheap shot at Dwight’s Trans Am. Andy’s bragging about the Xterra is appropriately annoying, but it works so well for these two off-the-wall characters.
The next season, Andy sells his Xterra to Dwight in “Did I Stutter?” Dwight then turns a profit by selling it on eBay. Andy replaces his Xterra with a Toyota Prius, first actually seen in Season 3. Until the end of his run on The Office, Andy had the silver third generation Toyota Prius.
Oscar’s Lexus RX SUV
In the beginning season of The Office, Oscar was driving a gold Saturn Ion. He gets a solid upgrade in Season 2 though. After being outed by Michael, Oscar is given a corporate-leased Lexus RX 400h. It makes a few appearances in later seasons, too.
Kevin’s 1998 Honda CR-V
Kevin’s CR-V was also shown in “Casual Friday” (the chili episode) of Season 5. The final appearance was a brief one in Season 8’s “Lotto.” Pretty good consistency with Kevin and his CR-V!
Kevin kept his Honda CR-V throughout the entire show! It was first seen in “Fun Run” from Season 4. Kevin hides in the back of the car because Michael sponsors a fun run to benefit rabies. It sounds strange writing this synopsis down, but it worked well on TV!
Stanley’s Chrysler 300C
The first car we see is from “Traveling Salesman” in Season 3. It’s just the interior of the vehicle that is shown, but it’s identifiable as a Lincoln LS. Then, a few episodes later in “Safety Training,” Stanley’s car is a white Chrysler 300C. In one of the all-time classic Office moments, Dwight drops a watermelon onto a trampoline. That melon bounces up and lands on Stanley’s car.
The same car is featured later, in Season 8, but in the episode, “Tallahassee,” Stanley is driving a red Chevy Camaro SS convertible while in Florida. It could have been a rental. Or maybe he leased? Either way, Florida Stanley was living his best life!
Meredith’s 1989 Ford Aerostar
Meredith’s minivan appeared in several episodes. It was first seen in “The Injury” from Season 2. The actress who portrays Meredith was legitimately excited to see it return and film scenes in it during Season 3, Episode 22: “Women’s Appreciation.” After the van blows a tire, Pam takes care of business and changes the tire.
Dwight’s 1987 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am
Dwight had a few cars during the entire nine season run of The Office. In the pilot episode, Dwight mentions driving a 1978 Nissan 280z. The first car he is actually seen with is a Datsun 240ZX, from “Grief Counseling.”
Then, in “The Fire,” Dwight is seen listening to music in his maroon 1987 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am. This was one of the vehicles that got a lot of screen time from there on out. It was a key part of “The Injury,” when Dwight rushes out of the office to help Michael. Instead, he ends up running into a pole with his Firebird and loses his front bumper.
Dwight buys Andy’s Nissan Xterra in “Did I Stutter?,” but then almost immediately sells it, turning a profit. He ends the series with a 2012 Header Orange Dodge Challenger SRT8, but his main ride will always be that Pontiac Firebird Trans Am. During a media interview before the series finale, Rainn Wilson said the one thing he wanted to keep from the set was Dwight’s car. Who can blame him?
The Rest of the Best
Those were some of the more memorable cars from The Office. It’s hard to beat Dwight’s Trans Am, right? There’s more though!
With such a large ensemble cast, a unique TV format, and creative writers, there were several opportunities to utilize a variety of vehicles in storylines. It’s time to test yourself. Do you remember all of these vehicles below?
- Jo drives a grey 2009 Cadillac Escalade Hybrid in “Whistleblower.”
- Holly drives a 2007 Toyota Camry Solara convertible, as seen in “Goodbye, Toby.”
- Angela starts off with a grey Ford Focus, but then gets a tan Saturn S series after her marriage to Senator Robert Lipton.
- Kelly is seen driving a second-generation Hyundai Accent.
- Erin drives a gold 1998 Ford Contour in a handful of episodes, including “Michael’s Last Dundies.”
- David Wallace owns a BMW 7 Series, but, in the final season, he has a newly-purchased Lexus GS 350.
- Karen has a silver Honda Passport, as seen in the episode “Diwali.”
- Roy owns a Ford Ranger XLT SuperCab in Season 1. Then, in “The Dundies,” Roy owns a Dodge Ram Regular Cab. He must’ve traded up after he left Pam because in “Roy’s Wedding,” Roy’s brother tells Jim that Roy is the owner of a $50,000 sports car.
- Toby drives a silver-blue Saab 9-2x wagon, which was spotted in “Take Your Daughter to Work Day.” In “Garden Party,” he’s driving a blue Subaru Impreza.
- Darryl had a 2007 Chevy Silverado. This truck wasn’t featured much, but there’s a quick glimpse of it in Season 5, where Kelly breaks up with him. Darryl is seen walking triumphantly out to his grey Silverado.
- Todd Packer is driving a red Chevrolet Corvette C6 convertible in Season 2, Episode 2. He’s seen with a 1982 Lincoln Towncar after that. Then, in Season 7, Todd shows up in a Porsche 997.2 Cabriolet. It’s complete with a personalized license plate that reads: “NEW MGR.”
- Ryan is first seen with a blue Honda Civic. That can be seen in “The Fire.” The next season, producers changed it on us (and didn’t think we’d notice). It’s a blue 4-door Chevrolet Cobalt instead of the Honda Civic. Later, in Season 4, he shows up in a silver BMW Z4 roadster.
Ah, yes. All those memories from The Office! A classic TV show featuring a couple of classic cars and a lot of fun.
