The Fast & Furious family is back! Check out the upcoming story and cars that were seen in the recent Fast X trailer!
Hard to believe F9 hit theaters almost two years ago already, but now we’re on to the next chapter – Fast X. The tenth installment of the car centric action series has finally shown its face through its first full-length trailer. From what we can tell, this movie is really leaning into the Dominic Toretto “Family” schtick, cranking the stunts to 11, further pushes the franchise into the Science Fiction genre, and is still full of the fast cars we love. We get a glimpse at least one actual racing scene occurring during trailer, but for all other scenes be ready to suspend your disbelief. Take a look at our overview of the trailer below and some of the various cars seen throughout. Beware of spoilers from here on out though if you haven’t caught up with the Fast & Furious franchise lately.
The Fast X trailer opens with Rita Moreno’s character (possibly a blood relative to Dom) giving a speech at the reoccurring Fast & Furious family backyard cookout. Dom talks to Letty about not being afraid as a father and shows him with his son in the Charger, but he also states being afraid of losing something he loves.
Enter Jason Momoa’s character, Dante, who has been wronged by Dom and his crew during that Brazilian bank heist from Fast Five. He lost his future and family during that event and now he’s hellbent on destroying Toretto’s family. It also looks as though he’s even went as far as kidnapping Dom’s son at some point in the film. From there were shown explosions, gun fights, some giant metal ball careening through the streets, characters getting arrested or captured, and flashbacks recounting the bank heist from the perspective of Dante.
The Fast X trailer then provides us with glimpses of a race that takes place in what looks like Brazil. We also see some big automotive battle led by John Cena’s character, Jakob, driving a supped up Mad Max-esque muscle car totting rocket launchers in the desert. Then we witness Dom’s Dodge Charger dropping out of the back of a plane to completely flatten two SUVs and continue driving in pursuit before two helicopters shoot harpoon guns into the Charger and lift Dom into the air that he seems to somehow smash together by going off a jump and again driving away unscathed. It’s insane.
Finally, the Fast X tailer starts to wrap it up with Michelle Rodriguez, Letty, and Charlize Theron, Cipher, in some weird high-tech environment on separate tables. The two end up fist fighting, slamming each other into the various gadgets and glass panes around the room. Getting vibes that we may see a Face/Off scenario play out.
The trailer ends with the tagline “The end of the road begins” which, along with the various points throughout the trailer about not making it out of this one, could mean we’re sunsetting one of these beloved Fast & Furious characters. If it’s in the manner that Jesse in the first film went out or in the way that Han was retconned to have faked his death remains to be seen, but be ready. See Fast X in theaters May 19th, I know I will.
Fast & Furious is all about the cars and this Fast X trailer has a ton of them. Here are all of the different models we were able to spy.
Dominic Toretto’s 1970 Dodge Charger R/T has been a staple to the Fast & Furious franchise ever since the first film. The pop culture icon can be seen throughout the Fast X trailer, but most prominently during the highway chase scene where it performs the aforementioned body slam and helicopter smash.
We briefly get a glimpse of the Dodge Charger Daytona EV parked outside the Toretto residence next to some unidentified supercar in the beginning. Expect to see some running shots of that for some point during the film.
The Dodge Charger is another common face throughout the franchise that appears during the Brazil flashback, but the Charger from that explosion scene in Rome looks pretty unique. The widebodied Charger in question looks to have the supercharger popping through the hood? We could chalk it up to another heavily modified Dom car, but could be an early glimpse at the final Last Call model we’ve been waiting for? A production Charger with the massive Hellephant V8 shoved in? We can only hope.
For a brief shot in Dom’s garage, we can see a ‘70 Chevy Chevelle SS that he appears to be working on after having finished the Charger.
Dante’s car of choice for a street race looks to be a ‘66 Chevrolet Impala SS. It better have some extensive mods or even a turbocharged LS engine under that hood if he wants any hope of beating Dom in that drag prepped Charger.
A Porsche shows up in the same street racing scene. While it’s brief (and exploding) it looks to be a Porsche 997 GT3 based on that front end and rear spoiler.
This yellow car during the street racing bits is definitely of the Fairlady Z variety. I’ve narrowed it down to a 240Z based on the glimpses we get of that front end. Either way, it looks like it ends up exploding and flipping through the air, so we won’t get to look at it for too long.
Han changed it up for Fast X, but his orange and black paint scheme remains. This time he can be seen speeding through European streets in an Alfa Romeo GTV 2000. Far from the JDM car we’ve come to love his character for, but I think we can give him a pass with this choice.
Speeding alongside that Alfa Romeo driven by Han is a gold Lamborghini Gallardo. It’s implied that this is driven by Deckard Shaw, but it looks to actually be driven by Roman thanks to a quick interior shot of him yelling “Here we go!”
There’s a quick shot of a red ‘66 Ford Fairlane ramming the back of what looks like Dom’s Charger and we also see and interior shot of that same vehicle where Dante is driving holding Dom’s kid by the collar.
Finally, that Mad Max inspired battle car that Jakob drives. There’s a brief shot of the rocket launcher totting muscle car jumping out of a mine shaft or something and that front end looks like Chevrolet El Camino to me. The bed of that classic ute is more than likely where the shells are reloaded into those launchers.
